![]() Williams was on top of the world and believed in the PR stunt hype of him being the most feared fighter in the world after ironically dethroning the former most feared (PR stunt hype) fighter Antonio Margarito and taking his WBO belt. Paul Williams, when at the peak of his PR stunt-orchestrated reputation of being the sport's most feared fighter, came into the ring to this song and also with an out-of-character Mohawk hair style as well to face the very hungry and underestimated Puerto Rican challenger Carlos Quintana. Many boxers used this song as their ring entrance, including most notably the often underrated heavyweight champion Larry Holmes. McFadden and Whitehead's "Ain't No Stopping Us Now" is a proud confident positive upbeat fight anthem. Many fighters still use "Mama Said Knock You Out" when they train and even enter the ring. Since this song became popular, several fighters have even stolen lines from this song to use when being interviewed by the media. When this song first came out I recall seeing LL Cool J on MTV explaining that he brought his mom to an award show and she said to him "come on, son, you can knock out all of these guys" referring to his direct musician competitors, obviously metaphorically (but probably literally, too, since this was the time LL was seriously hitting the weights and transforming his body into that of a body builder). The song is full of tributes to the sport of boxing and related metaphors with lines talking about Muhammad Ali, shadow boxing, and of course the opening line: "Don't call it a comeback!" The song came out in 1990 when boxing was still on the main stage of the world. (Minus probably his diss tracks in response to his past beef with rapper Canibus) The Verdictsĭespite beautiful graphics, Real Boxing punches below its weight due to frustrating controls and multiplayer issues.LL Cool J's "Mama Said Knock You Out" is probably the rap legend's hardest song that he ever recorded. Unfortunately, spectacular visuals and quality sound only make up for so many of the games shortcomings. Movements are fluid and this game looks like it belongs more on a console than a mobile device or tablet. The game also has an impressive soundtrack: hip-hop is played while your boxer enters, you can hear your boxer's heartbeat when his health is low, and sound effects such punches sound crisp. Boxers begin to sweat and cuts and bruises appear as they take more damage and the fight lasts longer. The graphics in Real Boxing are outstanding and easily the high point of the game. Health can be restored by touching a lock up button that appears and tapping the screen as quickly as possible.Īs mentioned above, the controls in Real Boxing can be unresponsive: sometimes left jabs don’t register and the dodge button doesn't always respond and sometimes you’ll get clobbered by a right uppercut when you meant to weave out of the way. However, taking three consecutive punches while blocking will stun you and timing your dodge wrong could mean a K.O. There is also a block button and a dodge button to protect your boxer. Which you hand you punch with is determined by the direction you swipe. Real Boxing is based around timing your swipes. Your boxer can throw right and left jabs, hooks, and uppercuts. Unfortunately, there appeared to be server issues and depending on the continent you choose, you might not be able to find players to fight. Real Boxing also offers multiplayer mode where you can challenge other boxers from around the world. ![]() To beat superior opponents you must have a near-perfect fight which detracts from gameplay and realism. The sloppy controls (see below) add to the frustration. It's not long before opponents are far too strong and can knock you out with one punch while barely taking any damage because your opponents have slightly higher speed, stamina, or strength ratings. The game starts out strong and the early fights are enjoyable to play, however the game quickly loses momentum as you progress further in the career mode.
